The Entrepreneurs' Forum is an event that helps to "support entrepreneurs based in the north east of England, helping them to develop, create new opportunities and grow their business".
The challenge here was to create an event guide cover for the Entrepreneurs' Forum for an upcoming event. This was in itself a very open brief as the only requirement was that it had to be A5.
This was an interesting brief as it was the first time that I have designed a fron cover when it came to editorial design, as in the past I have only designed the inside spreads and layout.
When working on this project, I looked at many editorials, not just event guides. This was where I discovered the work of MADE Publishers which I have previously mentioned. I also looked at different things symbolic to the region such as the River Tyne and how this could maybe be incorporated into the design of the cover. I found this to be helpful as when looking into different aspects away from what other people have done it gave me a different outlook on how the guide could turn out and this led me to a design using the shape of the region.
This was a very enjoyable project which led me to a different way or working. This was as I have mentioned, due to the fact that I looked outside of the design genre and took inspiration from elsewhere. By doing this, I feel it has given me a better way of approaching new briefs as I have started looking to question the brief a bit more and maybe find solutions that are outside of the box and stand out from the obvious. Due to working in this way I feel that this project in particular really helped me to grow as a designer and have a broader outlook when it comes to my design work.
