Bedrock records is a British record label, founded by John Digweed and Nick Muir specialising in trance, house and techno. The brief here was to design an album cover for a John Digweed album, the name of which was up to me.
Of the four briefs that were set, this was definitely my favourite to work on and I could have happily spent longer on it furthering my outcome. Whilst working on this brief I found myself thinking that this was definitely an area of design that I could see myself pursuing further in the future.
In this project as it was something that I had not worked on before, I looked a lot at other album covers and what has been done, paying close attention to the iconic albums and what makes them the iconic album covers that we see them as. As well as this, I took note of how I worked in the Entrepreneurs' Forum brief and made sure to look further afield in terms of inspiration. This included looking on the likes of collate and designspiration to see what was generally happening in the world of design and how the current trends could influence my designs. I also took time to research into the works of some iconic album designers such as Trevor Jackson and Peter Saville.
I feel that overall this project went really well for me opening my eyes to a n area of design which I found myself really enjoying and relishing the new challenge. In the beginning I struggled to get into it, but once I did I wanted to see the project through from start to finish there and then. I found myself doing more responses and design work in this project, with a lot of focus on refining my idea down to something that I felt could really work as a finished article. When I finished this I knew it was a project that I wanted to see through and come up with a finished piece.
