The next module at college was the D&AD New Blood brief, something that I was really excited about getting stuck into. What I was looking forward to the most was the fact that it was a live competition, with the option of entering my work into the awards to be judged.
There were 14 briefs to choose from, including companies such as VICE NEWS, the BBC, and PANTONE to name a few. I chose the PANTONE brief, where the challenge was to "re-imagine your home town through the use of colour".
College-wise this module was alternative techniques, and so I had to show that I was using a variety of methods when both experimenting and creating my work. This was something that I was relishing the opportunity to begin as I like finding out new methods of creating work.
Like always, I conducted a SWOT analysis before I started the module.
Strengths - researching and sketchbook work, liaising with other creatives
Weaknesses - Sometimes get too involved in the sketchbook
Opportunities - To be able to get my work judged by industry professionals
Threats - If I work with other creatives, it opens the door to being let down, the same with printers if work is being sent to print
The targets that I set myself for this module were:
- To create work that stands out from everyone else's, taking advice from Sarah Hanley's before Christmas
- To push myself to challenge the brief
- To try things that I wouldn't normally do
