Shoot Day!

When it came to the day of the shoot, it was grey and rainy meaning that access to the tunnel was made more difficult by about two feet of water however once through this the atmosphere inside the Culvert was just as I was hoping. The damp walls added for a great backdrop, and the crumbling ceiling all added to the atmospherics.

I felt that the shoot went really well due to the forward planning, and both the photographer and I seemed to be on the same page from the start meaning everything progressed at a good pace. We had two flares to work with, so there was room for experimentation on the first go which made things more relaxed. This meant that we could get a good array of shots and move the camera angles for the second time round. This proved useful as the flares gave off an intense light which seemed hard to photograph well on the camera however the photographer worked to get some great shots, capturing the feel of the tunnel. The lingering smoke also allowed for some shots that I had not thought about, such as the smoke hanging below the ceiling. These added with the main shots of the flare really worked well to capture the mood of the tunnel and would work well into the inside booklet of the album.

Overall the shoot went much better than expected and with help from someone on my course, the three of us managed to get some great shots for the album and the accompanying promotional material.
