Seven Bridges is the academic journal for Newcastle College all edited by students from the college, and along with another student on my course, I was presented the opportunity to redesign the layout to make it more interesting to read. We have had initial meetings to get an understanding of what the editors are wanting the journal to look like ideally, however nothing has been set in stone and it is still very much in the initial stages of the design process.
Editorial is an area of design that I really enjoy, and so to have the opportunity to do this is something that I am really excited about. I feel that it will be a good way to get another editorial module into my portfolio as well due to it being a live brief, and the constant liaising with the editors is good practice for when I eventually do go into the industry.
With academic journals, they are normally very copy heavy and boring to read, and so the chance to redesign the current journal will pose a challenge to make it visually appealing however I think that it could turn out to look really good if the right time and care is taken on it.
